Location: Highland, NY

History: Before purchase, described as a "hoarder's paradise," Hudson Ale Works was a laundromat, machine shop, and cabinet shop. Three friends collaborated, cleaned the place out, and now stands Hudson Ale Works which first opened in the Spring of 2016.

Food Service: Yes, a small menu of snacks.

The Scenario

When we walked in there was clearly a lot of patrons. We had to park in their auxiliary lot next to a sketchy antique shop down the road, a short walk away. Upon entering we realized there was a baby shower happening in their side room. This is not the first time we have witnessed a baby shower happening at a brewery and we wonder if these are some cruel punishments for the mothers to be, it's unclear. In any case, Deanna grabbed a table and Kyle hit the bar to get our drinks. While Kyle was not carded at the bar, Deanna was just sitting at a table, no beer in sight. To this day we are not sure what that was about but she passed with flying colors and we enjoyed some delicious sours while being entertained by the people watching in the next room.

The Ratings

Dry Hopped Sour
K: 3.5/5 - I like a good sour but this is REAL sour. Still delicious though.

D: 4/5 - Delicious sour taste

Final Thoughts

K: Although it looks sketchy from the outside and parking is a bit of an issue, I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the beer we had here. It was easy to get a drink even though it was quite busy and our sours were really good. If in the area, I would definitely stop by again!

D: Well, I felt kind of weird about being the only person carded in the place the entire time we were there and just for simply sitting at a table. But the beer was good and I think being able to sit in the room off the bar where the baby shower was being held would've been a little more comfortable.

Fairfield Craft Ales

The Stats  Location:  Stratford, C T History: Fairfield Craft Ales opened in early July 2016 with a little help from the crowd-funding site, KickStarter. Mike and Joe have more than 25 years of brewing experience and have always been music lovers. So, it just makes sense that their dream was to open a brewery that serves beer inspired by music.  Food Service: No, they only have some chips and soda. This brewery is a stark contrast from its neighbor, Two Roads, just 3 minutes down the road. The small taproom gives this brewery a home-y feel. The first time we visited, we were greeted similarly to the locals on Cheers . We felt welcomed immediately and this time was no different. Although, FCA and Two Roads are very different structurally, they do have one thing in common: they brew good beer.
