Bone Up Brewing

The Stats

Location: Everett, MA

History: Started by a husband and wife team, Bone Up has been cranking out American Style Ales based on old-school Belgian techniques since 2016. In an old, out-of-use, and run-down laundromat, Bone Up was born.

Food Service: Yes, light fare. On Thursday's, they serve up slices of pizza from local pizzeria Sillari's. On Friday's, they usually have food trucks. On the weekends they serve up Pretzels from local Fat Boyfriend Bakery with beer cheese and Cauldron mustard.

The Scenario

Bone Up was the second stop on our short tour of the Malden/Everett area of outer Boston. Bone Up is located a short block away from Night Shift which is ideal for an afternoon of drinking. Walking into the building where Bone Up is located you don't exactly expect to find a brewery. It feels like more dingy warehouse than welcoming brewery. Finally finding the entrance to the actual brewery with a speak-easy feel, we entered and was surprised at how busy it was inside. From the outside you would never have known the activity within the brewery. Bone Up is a small space which makes it tough to maneuver on a busy day. We found a single open table and ordered a few flights and some pints with our group of friends.
The flights are served in muffin pans and come with your choice of a snack (cheez-its, cookies, fruit snacks etc.) The atmosphere was pretty cool with hanging string lights lining the ceiling. There are plenty of board games and arcade games to keep the hipster in you occupied. After enjoying our flights and pints and playing a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity, we headed out to our next adventure.

The Ratings

Key Lime White Ale
K: 2.5/5 - Definitely a lime taste but a fake lime taste. Not the best.

Final Thoughts

D: 3.5/5 - I liked this place but mostly for the feel of the place. It was fortunate that we got a table although way too small for the several muffin tin flights our group purchased. I tried some beers of others but didn't love any of them.

K: 3/5 - I thought Bone Up was okay. I thought the weird warehouse that it is located in was exactly that, weird. The atmosphere inside is really cool but the beer just wasn't that great. If I were to visit the area again I would definitely have a pint at Night Shift and would possibly wander back down to Bone Up if only for proximity.
