Two Brothers Brewing Company

The Stats

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

History: Founded in 1996 near Chicago by brothers Jim and Jason Ebel, Two Brothers Brewing Company produces a wide variety of beers as well as homebrewing supplies. They have opened a number of breweries across Illinois and one location in Scottsdale, AZ. They have also begun to roast small batch coffee starting in 2012.

Food Service: Yes, Two Brothers provides a full restaurant menu with bar snacks and burgers. We had the truffle fries, the short rib quesadilla, and the cheese curds. Everything was very delicious!

The Scenario

Two Brothers is relatively new in downtown Scottsdale and the space is huge. The restaurant has a full bar in the center with plenty of seating around it as well as some seating upstairs. We were there on a weekday afternoon and were quickly seated at a table near the bar. We ordered drinks and food and we were served promptly. As mentioned above, the food was delicious. After both trying the Ebel's Weiss, we decided to have a go at their Weisscracker Berliner Weiss. We were warned that it is a sour beer, and it is VERY sour. Knowing what a Berliner Weiss is and rolling our eyes at our waitress, we decided to still order it. We were then offered a choice of Woodruff (still don't know what that is), raspberry, or habanero mango syrup to add to our selection. We decided on the habanero mango and was informed that they were in fact, all out of habanero mango as well as raspberry syrup to pair with the beer. We took the beer in it's orginal form instead of Woodruff.

The Ratings

Ebel's Weiss

D: 3/5 - It was okay. I quickly disregarded it once the sour arrived at the table.
K: 4/5 - Very good Weiss beer! Definitely taste the banana notes

Weisscracker (Berliner weisse) available with syrups (imported Woodruff, housemade raspberry, or habanero mango)

Our ratings are based off of our pint w/o any syrups added as they didn't have raspberry, or habanero mango and we were unsure of what Woodruff was.

D: 4/5 - Very good. Not as sour as we were warned. Can definitely taste the lemon flavor but not as intense as the tasting note state - "lemon head candy".
K: 4/5 - A not too sour, sour. Very good and refreshing.

Final Thoughts

D: 4/5 - Loved it. It's a good spot for food and drinks. If we're ever in Illinois we'll probably hit up the other locations for comparison. The coffee brewing aspect of this place also intrigued me. If I ever get the chance again I might have to try their roasts as well.

K: 4/5 - A great spot for a beer and some food in downtown Scottsdale. I think regardless of the beer, I would go here for a meal often if I lived in the area. I can imagine it gets crowded in the evening for the dinner crowd as well as at the bar. I enjoyed both my beers, the atmosphere, and the food!
