Brewport Brewing Company

The Stats

Location: Bridgeport, CT

History: Opening in August 2016, this brewery has seen much success already. The large space which was once the central distribution center for all out of town newspapers was found by the Barrett brothers who approached the long-time brewer of BAR in New Haven with the idea of opening a place of their own.

Food Service: Yes, assorted pizzas and salads.

Website: brewportct.com

The Scenario

Right off the highway, Brewport is in a fantastic location. Webster Bank Arena is a stone's throw away and it seems like Brewport is definitely trying to attract that crowd. With pizzas and salads on the menu, Brewport is focused on fast fare, perfect for a night at a show or sporting event. As we entered we saw a large room full of typical giant brewery games (jenga, connect four, etc.) The main hall consists of the full bar as well as plentiful seating which consists of two levels of tables. Rustic decor adorns the space with a wooden/industrial theme. Many elements of the building's history as a newspaper distribution center remain. The long tables in the taproom are repurposed newspaper folding tables and the menu is laid out in a newspaper format. Brewport offers a wide selection of their own beers as well as a large selection of other local craft ales along with cocktails featuring craft beers. Although we went on a Sunday afternoon, it got relatively crowded. It just let us imagine how crowded and lively it must be on a Friday or Saturday afternoon/night.

The Ratings

Blood Orange Blonde

D: 3.5/5 - Super light and the blood orange flavor isn't super distinguishable.
K: 3.5/5 - Nothing particularly exciting about this beer but very light and drinkable.

Seventh Inning Session IPA

D: 2.5/5 - For an IPA, I didn't completely hate it. It was still too hoppy for me though.

K: 3.5/5 - A good light IPA without the aggressive bite.

Schleuter Dunkelweiss

D: 3.5/5 - Tastes like bananas which I love but I'm not sure I could've had a whole pint.

K: 4/5 - Could definitely taste the banana flavor they boast in the description. Very delicious.

And So It Gose (Sierra Nevada Otra Vez mixed drink)

D: The most delicious. Very light and refreshing. I don't normally like basil but it works in this drink quite well.

Final Thoughts

D: 4.5/5 - Very cool space and good beer. I actually can't stop thinking about the mixed drink I had. I have no doubt that we'll be back and we'll definitely be ordering the pizza most likely before an event at the Webster Bank Arena. I like how they kept elements of the building's history alive.

K: 4.5/5 - You would never guess what lies inside Brewport from the outside or the surrounding area. It really is a breathe of fresh air in an otherwise drab and industrial backdrop. Although we didn't have the pizza, it looked great, a nice thin crust. The beer was pretty delicious and you could tell that the place gets crowded during popular times.
