Brass Works Brewing Company

The Stats

Location: Waterbury, CT

History: Brass Works is a family affair. Two brothers began as home brewers in the 1980s and teamed up a brother-in-law and a co-worker in 2004. The hobby quickly outgrew their garage brewery and led to the opening of Brass Works in Dec 2015.

Food Service: No, but food trucks roll in as soon as they open.

The Scenario

Being the first customers of the day, we were welcomed with a friendly hello. As we posted up at the bar, the bartender attended to us right away as we were the first customers of the day. We ordered a flight and a pint and admired the wall of beer mugs and a particularly creepy clown painting below the bar. Past the bar into the brewery part we saw a number of men doing brewery things with shovels and big vats of who knows what. It was kind of a cool window into the brewing process as we sipped our suds  Not long after we arrived, other patrons filed in. As we sat and enjoyed our beers, the bartender opened the garage door that sits across from the bar  and the nice fall air seeped in (along with a bee or two.) The bar was large with a large area with wooden booths that stretched to the front door, plenty of board games were available and some takeout menus were in sight as we assumed that you could order delivery to the brewery. There were a few regulars who stopped by which added to the comfortable feel of this brewery.

Final Thoughts

D: 3.5/5 - Simple brewery with a home-y feel. I enjoyed my pint and the bartender was very friendly but not too intrusive which I can appreciate. The glass door that allowed us to have a sneak peek of the brewing process was pretty cool. I'd definitely pop back in when a cool food truck was on the schedule.

K: 3.5/5 - Overall a really comfortable spot. The signage as you drove by could be better as we passed it the first time, and on the outside it doesn't look like much, but it is definitely worth a stop. This brewery seems like the type, if you like the beer, you could spend all day in. With plenty of seating and many beers to try it is an enjoyable way to spend your day. Board games are available and it seems like there is a new beer on their cask regularly. If I was in the area, I would definitely stop back in.
