Yard Owl Craft Brewery

The Stats

Location: Gardiner, NY

History: The brewery recently moved to their current space from a 400 square foot shed. The brewmasters started a Kickstarter campaign and raised over $41,000 to fund their move to a larger space with room to brew their beer.

Food Service: Yes, they had quite the selection of food to order.

The Scenario

This place is absolutely in the middle of nowhere. When we pulled up there weren't many cars in the lot but there was a stretch limo parked outside. As we approached, I commented that it sounded like a band was playing inside. However, there was no band just a wedding party loudly gabbing around a long table toward the back of the tap room. The room was quite big and resembled a large garage so the noise echoed. We enjoyed a sampling of their beers and inaccurately pronounced their french names (well, at least Deanna did).

The Ratings

Casa Diablo Dark Ale brewed with coffee
K: 2/5 - Again, I don't like dark beers or coffee but this is okay

Grisette Belgian Wheat
D: 3/5 - Good, light beer

Final Thoughts

D: 3/5 - Big space and good beer. The group that was in there was very loud and it hurt my ears after a while. They were distracting but I can't fault the place for that. I enjoyed the Grisette and laughing at myself trying to pronounce French.

K: 3.5/5 - I enjoyed this spot. Not only did the bartender engage with us but they offered us a jar of nuts while we sipped their beers! I enjoyed almost all of the beers we tried but they all kind of tasted the same. The lack of descriptions of the beers was also tough but I would definitely return!
