Night Shift Brewing

The Stats

Location: Everett, MA

History: A group of three friends began home brewing in 2007 in their Somerville apartment. The name for their brewery came from their schedule of having desk jobs during the day and staying up well past midnight several nights a week brewing beer. In 2012, the trio opened their first nanobrewery and in 2014 moved to their current 30,000 sq. ft. space.

Food Service: Snacks and food trucks.

The Scenario

While visiting friends in Massachusetts, we just had to incorporate some brewery visits. Night Shift is a popular brewery that we had heard about and we were excited to visit. We arrived at the perfect time. Our group of 6 was able to secure the last available high-top table. We all ordered a mix of flights and pints to enjoy. They were pretty strict about showing your stamped hand indicating your ID was checked and you were of drinking age. One person was also not allowed to order for another guest without them coming up to the bar and showing their stamp. This isn't something we've encountered anywhere else.  On top of that, the line for the bar was HUGE. There were only two people working behind the bar and the line had to be at least 10 customers deep which detered us from getting more beer.

This brewery features food trucks almost every day of the week. The day we visited they were hosting Bonetown Burgers. They featured classic and specialty burgers as well as truffle oil tater tots and your choice of bacon or spicy ketchup. The food was delicious and paired well with our beer.

The Ratings

Aloha Weisse

Furth Hefeweizen
K: 3.5/5 - Less sweet than I'm used to but still solid.

'Briar Weisse
D: Interesting flavor, very cool berry color.

Homestead
K: 4/5 - A great saison, more sour than normal which was great.

Pomona Weisse
D: 3/5 - Similar to Aloha but not as sour.

Nectar Weisse
D: 4.5/5 - Amaze standard sour taste.

Final Thoughts

D: 4/5 - Very cool brewery. They had some really good beer and the food truck was delicious. My only gripe would be the lines. I wanted to purchase a glass and I waited on the designated line for what seemed like forever. But if we were in the area again, I have no doubt we'd hit Night Shift up again.

K: 3.5/5 - A really great brewery with a huge selection and awesome food trucks. The vibe is second to none and I really enjoyed myself. That being said, the lines are what told the story for me. Yes, this place deserves to be busy since it's awesome, but I could not handle waiting close to 15/20 minutes for a pint of beer in the long line at the bar. Bring your patience if you visit!
