The Scenario

We enjoyed Goldwater Brewing Co. on a Wednesday afternoon and was surprised to see the small tasting room relatively busy! There were spaces at the bar that were open but it was crowded for the small space. Goldwater is a brewery where you enjoy their beers right in front of the kettles and fermenters while the brewers work right in front of you. It is interesting to see the brewing process being done right before your eyes. Goldwater offers a few options for beer lovers. They offer their beer in 5oz, 10oz or 16oz pours as well as two types of growlers. Seeing that this was our second brewery of the day, we appreciated that we could get a taste and not only a full pint. Goldwater is located in a funky art district and parking is tough but they offer a variety of beers in varying sizes. As stated above, they do have a second tasting room open on Saturdays where they highlight cask and aged ales. Although we coudn't get a look, we were told it was an old shooting range which is mostly intact. Definitely curious if you plan to go on a Saturday.

The Ratings

Desert Rose Cactus Ale

D: 3.5/5 - Light flavor, not sweet at all. The color is vibrant.
K: 3.5/5 - Tastes a little fruity but not sweet, a little sour but not tart. Mysterious beer.

Worth the Wit Belgian Wheat

K: 2.5/5 - A different Belgian wheat. Maybe it's the pilsner malt, but definitely tastes more bitter than I'm used to.

Final Thoughts

D: 3.5/ 5 - I thought this was a really great brewery on our tour of Scottsdale. The cactus ale is a must have if only to say you've had it. The balcony area is definitely something I'd like to indulge in on a warmer day. I'm also very curious about the atmosphere of the basement tap room. I also appreciated the different pours they offer as sometimes I don't want a full pint of a beer I'm skeptical about.

K: 3.5/5 - A really cool spot in a cool area right in Old Town Scottsdale. It has a huge variety of beer and there is something for everyone. The cactus beer alone is well worth the trip. I really like the coziness while still appearing like a legitimate large-scale brewery. I would absolutely come back if I was in the area and wanted a nice cold brew.
