Yonkers Brewing Company

The Stats

Location: Yonkers, NY

History: Yonkers Brewing Co. was established in 2010 with two friends who just wanted to brew "the sweet nectar [they] enjoy." Their goal is for the brewery to "reflect how they see their hometown and be a place where the community can come together in a lively environment to celebrate what [Yonkers] has to offer."

Food Service: Yes, this visit we had the Chicken Tenders breaded in corn flakes and served with a BBQ sauce. It was delicious although we both agreed the breading as well as the sauce needed something.

The Scenario

A hometown favorite for Deanna, Yonkers Brewery is always a good time. This was our second time there and it was just a great as the first. Yonkers Brewery has 12 beers on tap at any given time plus a full food menu. We went on a Saturday afternoon and headed straight for the large bar. The facility itself is huge and there is plenty of room for a small group or a large gathering. The location is right next to the train station which allows commuters to get a refreshment and a meal before or after their train ride. The only downside is parking. With some metered parking in front of the place as well as a short block away, most of the parking is in a nearby parking garage. On a cold day, it can be quite chilly walking over. When we were there, the place was decorated for Christmas with lights and trees decking out every corner. We ordered a few beers and an appetizer to split. If you want a flight, they have three types of flights hand picked for you. The name of the flights call back to the owner's mission to honor their hometown. Guests have a choice of choosing 92 Main (address of the brewery), Yonkers Ave (large street that runs east-west in the city) and Hudson Line (Metro North transit line servicing Yonkers) for the pre-selected flights.

The Ratings

Citra Sour

D: 4.5/5 - A delicious sour. Very satisfied and I'd buy if it was bottled.

Pilsner

K: 3/5 - Pretty good pilsner. Hoppier than I expected.

Vienna Lager

K: 3/5 - Nice malty and smooth.

Final Thoughts

D: 4.5/5 - Maybe I'm bias but I love this place. Downtown Yonkers has experienced a renaissance in the recent years and this establishment is a great example of the direction this section of the 5th largest city in the state of New York is going. I love it and I'll be coming back!

K: 4/5 I really do enjoy this brewery. With a variety of beers on tap, Yonkers has a great vibe and great food as well as some great beer. Parking is difficult and the flight situation is limiting however, Yonkers will be a place we continue to frequent when we are in the area.
